2. Eastern Europe 2005

Eastern Europe 2005

The delightful little town of Svitavy in the Czech Republic. Birthplace of Oskar Schindler (Schindlers List), we found this lovely place quite by chance. Part of the beauty of just driving around, one can chance upon places like this.

Beautiful Svitavy...no hoodies, no litter, no dead-beats and punks...no Muslim terrorists, no graffiti, no chewing gum on the floor, no McDonalds, no tourists, ...I could go on but you get the drift. My kinda place.

This was our hotel in Svitavy, 20 quid for the night and the most wonderful food and beer you can imagine....

Fantastic Czech food and the best beer (pivo) around. Hmmm. Ate and drank like pigs for several hours. Definetely going back here on a return visit.

The Tatra mountains in Poland, near the Slovakian border. The starting point of the Carpathian mountain range which goes eastward into Mother Russia.

Krakow town square, Poland

By the River Elbe in Dresden

Another Czech/German border town...can't even remember the name, after a while they all look alike

More good food in Slovakia. It was sauerkraut and chicken in a beaker !! Man it was good.

Our hotel in Dolny Kubin, Slovakia, another 20 quid a night ex-commy place. A bit neglected but nice clean rooms. This is Europe's best kept secret for tourism, in my opinion. There are lots of lovely little towns with great food and wonderful countryside. The weather is fantastic and its so cheap. Its safe, clean, the people are nice and there are no deadbeats and punks. Yet the clones keep flocking to Spain and the Costa's. Be bold, do something different and explore.!
